IPL 2021 – Guwahati out of race for new franchise, Ahmedabad may get team

IPL 2021 – BCCI will have a meeting on Thursday regarding to include two new teams in IPL 2021. In this meeting it will be decided whether to have 2 new teams in the next season of IPL. However, there is no official update regarding this yet. At the same time there are speculations that Ahmedabad may get a new team. The BCCI wants to organize more IPL matches here due to the World Class Stadium being built in Motera.

Apart from Ahmedabad, cities like Guwahati, Pune, Lucknow and Kanpur are in the race to become other franchises. According to Local Publications, Assam Cricket Association Secretary Devjit Lone Saikia will propose the team from Guwahati at the upcoming annual general meeting of the BCCI. However, according to the news of InsideSport, Guwahati will not get the team for the 2021 IPL season.

A senior BCCI official said,
No state association has been awarded the team yet. The BCCI’s annual meeting may allow 1 to 2 teams for the next season. Of these, Ahmedabad will be the first city, while cities like Pune, Lucknow and Kanpur can also be included in the second franchise race. Guwahati is rarely included in the list of potential cities.

IPL 2021 – Officially no new IPL team announced yet

The largest stadium in the world is ready in Ahmedabad and due to this there will be a new team there. After this it was also reported that there may be an IPL team in the name of Guwahati. However, no new team has been officially announced yet.
